MATAKANA
(Own Correspondent.)
"Your Own" has been taken to' task for mis-spelling the title of the musical farce given at the Belgian concert. Not being well acquainted with the perfume (or was it a mere odor ?) I spelled it Peechouly, the comp. altered the 1 to b and it appeared Pachouby. It should have been Patchouly. I thought it did not matter; it seems it did. However, "the play's the thing," and it was good.
[If the perfume is referred to, is ii not Patchouli ?—-Ed.]
THE MAIN STREET.
It was expected that a meeting would have been held last week, to discuss the conditious of the main street. At the time of writing there are no indications of one being held. This is to be regretted. The Board's attitude is causing a good deal of adverse comment, and it is hoped that they will do the sensible thing and put the main street in order. STORE IMPROVEMENT. Messrs W. Pulham & Son have greatly improved the appearance of their store. The old verandah has been demolished, and a new one constructed, including a concrete floor. The buildings have been painted, and now look bright and fresh. FORWARD.
There is a movement on foot to establish either a branch of the National Reserve or a Defence Rifle Club, A meeting is to be held on Saturday next, and it is hoped that there will be a good attendance. Most of those interested in the movement are exvolunteers, who feel that a little extra training would be good for them and for others.
