METHODIST CONFERENCE.

Mr Meek, ex-President of the Methodist Conference, dealt with the question of fixed creeds and freedom of thought. He nrged the necessity for tolerance in the matter of theologithinking keeping abreast of the oost intellectual life and knowledge of the age. Mr Meek’s utterances have led to totoch heart-burning and press correspondence. ■ The onference last evening discussed the matter at length and earnestly for some time, •nd there was a warm debate. While freeing with Mr Meek as to the necessity for freedom to think, the heed for progress and expressing the rotmdnesß of Mr Meek’s fundamental ®tn and doctrines, some speakers Of opinion that his pronouncement being of an official aharacter pNgbt make in the direction of shakng the faith and loyalty of the Christian community.
