HALCOMBE MILITARY SPORTS.
Ideal 'weather, a large number of people out to enjoy themselves, together Jwith a variety of interest- „ ing competitions, combined with excellent management, made this Sports meeting of March sth, 1913, a pronounced success. The welcomed presence of the Club’s patron, Mr D. ? H. Guthrie, M.P., gave a social, if 3 not a political, tone to the meeting, and several informal interviews and consultations were held with that genial gentleman during the day. The president of the Club, Mr J. Morrison, was unavoidably absent, he having to respond to a business call from Hawera. The Marion Junction Band, though not in its full force, did much to enliven the proceedings, and their playing was greatly appreciated by onr people, who too long have been deprived of the inspiriting music of such a combination of enthusiasts, Messrs Page and Phillips as joint secretaries, assisted by Mr Gillet, were closely attentive to their duties throughout a trying day’s work, and they, together with the members of the various working committees, are to be cordially complimented upon the successful r.esult of their efforts to provide a day’s healthy sport for the residents of Haloombe and surrounding districts. The management wishes to warmly thank Messrs Younger and Perry, who acted as judges, in all the horse events. Kesults:—• Boys’ Race: Bailey 1, Iwikan 2, Girls’ Race: B, MacGregor 3, Janie Cameron 3.
