Some old hands have already departed for Auckland, and the majority of the others are leaving next week. They say it is nnlikely they will return. Those having homes here intend to seek • other employment. Inquiries among the local watersiders show that they have little sympathy with the strike, which they consider unnecessary and unjustifiable, and they declare there will be no refusal to handle meat so far as Wanganai watersiders are concerned. GEAR AND WELLINGTON" COMPANIES START ON TUESDAY. February 3. The Gear and Wellington Meat Export Companies obtained sufficient applications from batchers to warrant them making a start on Tues • day. The number of men available is considered satisfactory. An arrangement has 'been made for stock to be on hand on Monday evening,.
