FINGER POSTS.
The finger posts in Oroua. County are not as indicative of one’;-/ abouts as they might be. lu most Counties finger posts indicate “To —,” and very often the distance. Not so in Oroua. The djtrango traveller reads —Road,” and is no wiser. On many cross roads tho signs are so placed that only those with an intimate knowledge 1 , of road names know which is which. A day or two ago' two Fdildingifees essayed over unknown country, striking out from Cheltenham 061ytouwards. { Had it not been that one of them with a long experience of the neighbouring district was enabled from points of vantage to , recognise landmarks,' they would . have been put to the trouble of seeking information from wayside settlers. And still more reeentlv a party of motorists making for Gaiter ton from Feilding after travelling some distance found themselves in the early evening stranded at Oolyton with a punctured tyre. A sympathetic settler despatched one of his hands toFeilding for a repairing outfit, and in the meantime regaled the lost ones with tea and a little geography.
