MARION ROSE SHOW.

SOME GOOD BLOOMS.

The above Show was opened yesterday afternoon, and there was a fair attendance during the afternoon and evening. Some fine exhibits were made in roses, the first prize blooms of Miss Beckett’s and the Marton Bowling Club being very conspicuous. The pansies entered 1 by Mrs A. Mclndoe and the rhododendrons by, Mrs W. J. Birch® attracted a good deal of attention, and secured, first prizes. Mrs Mogridge had charge of the jumble stall and did a thriving business, while Misses E. Mathers, O. Beard and M. Baxter ran the lollie stall at a profit. The. afternoon tea department was in charge of Mrs P. Beard, and strawberries and cream were dispensed by Mrs J. Beard. The fancy stall was under the supervision of Mrs Hutchins. Messrs Kyle and Howard conducted a miniature telegraph office, and were the means of adding a substantial sum to the takings The table decorations (popular vote) resulted; —Mrs A. Aiken (No. 4) 71 votes, 1, Misses D. Sutcliffe and C. Beard (No. 1), and Miss Irene Mogridge (No. 2) tied for second, 34 votes; Miss M. McKenzie, 23 votes, 4. Nail-driving competitions (ladies), Mrs M. J. Byrt 1, Mrs Moore 3. Sewing competition (men), Mr J. Paul.

Messrs A. J. Shailer and J. Weightman had splendid exhibits of rhododendrons, pot plants and roses on view, and .report good sales. The Marton Junction Band discoursed excellent music outside "the hall, and played several selections on the stage, which were much appreciated by the audience. Mr P. Beard fulfilled his secretarial duties in a capable manner and considering that this was his first attempt at conducting a show showed great promise,.
