MAORI SOLDIERS HONOURED A large number of people gathered at the W aotu Hall in honour of Privates William Terei and Tommy Whaiapu, who were home on leave. On behalf of the pakeha residents ■Mr. A. Richardson wished the guests well and mentioned his pride in the ract that Private Terei was going to take part in his second war. Mr. Richardson handed the soldiers the usual presents. Mrs. C. Cherry made a presentation of a pair of sox to each soldier on behalf of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union. On behalf of the Soldiers’ Social Committee Mr. F. Peters presented the usual cheques, and said he remembered Private Terei well in the last war. ■’ On behalf of the Maoris, Mr. Para Marsh spoke eloquently of the part the Maori had already played, and wished the boys well. During the evening Privates Whaiapu, Terei and Barney Terei sang some of their camp songs, with Private Hori George at the piano. Also present were the following servicemen: Privates Hori George and Barney Terei, and Able-Seaman Jimmy Gingles, of the Navy.
