W. Swift, explained that the purpose of the ceremony" was to honour the brave man, and said that at that moment .‘similar ceremonies were taking place in all the Native schools throughout New Zealand Mr Para Marsh gave in Maori an account of the life and exploits of Meana-Nui-a Kiwa Ngarimu, and an inspiring tribute irf Maori was paid to the hero by Mr M. Phillips. Mr Swift read an extract from the. official citation in English. Two groups of children also took part in the ceremony and paid tributes in English to the dead hero. Mrs C Cherry, teacher of the Sunday School, offered a fitting prayer. The hymn, “Abide With Me.” was sung, and the assembly stood at attention for a brief but impressive silence- ' The ceremony was concluded with the singing of the National Anthem.
