PUTARURU TOWN BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING Theatre Site Purchased In the absence of the chairman the monthly meeting of the Putaruru Town Board, held on Monday, was presided over by Mr. C- V. Pearce. Also present were: Messrs. A. C. Anderson, R- Lee, J. A. Ranger, N. Fitziherbert, D. C. Freeman and the clerk, Mr V. L. Drummond. Leave of absence was granted the chairman, Mr. A- R. Vosper. Rifle Range Permission was granted the Piutaruru Home Guaid to use the gravel pit as a rifle range. Putaruru Girls’ Club A letter was despatched to the Putaruru Girls’ Club advising them that they could secure the hall for their purposes at a minimum rate of 10s Putaruru Nursing Division Pei mission was granted the Putaruru Nursing Division to hold a street stall. A motion, which was carried, was moved by Mr. Freeman that for any patriotic activities the hall fee be reduced if application was made. The A. and P. Society asked that they be allowed to have the use of Glenshea Park for their show at a rental of £5. and added that the society would hand over two sections adjoining the park. Mr. Ranger said that in his opinion the show had been responsible for imp oving the district and their request should be granted. Mr. Freeman said he considered it an institution worthy of every j support. A motion was proposed by Mr. Anderson that the A. and P. Society be informed that if they would hand over their two sections the board would grant them free rent for 25 years. Alteration to Shed at Glenshea Park Permission was given the A. and P- Society to .extend the shed at Glenshea Park to provide catering rooms, subject to the approval of the t Rugby Union. A deputation consisting of Messrs D. D. Sneddon, L A. Deihl and K. S- Cox attended to discuss the above matters, and it was decided to call a meeting of the Rugby Union and other bodies using the park to investigate the matter. Water Supply for State Houses The State Advances Corporation wrote asking if the board could give some advice as to when the supply of water would commence in Putaruru:,, as they were considering laying on water at the State houses. In reply it was stated that arrangements were still in hand and would would be commenced at the first opportunity. Record Month for Building Building permits issued during the month amounted to £14,183, being made up of £12,688 for new bank premises, £95 for a garage for Mr. A. C. Anderson, and £ISOO for a dwelling for Mr. G. A. Howland. Last month it was reported that the permits issued totalled £6521 10s, which was the highest ever previously issued by the board. Foreman’s Report In ihis monthly report the Town Board foreman, Mr D. Burke, said that general repair work had been carried out. Theatre Site It was reported by the clerk that a section had been bought for the erection of a theatre, municipal buildings and library at a future date. Noxious Weeds It was decided that property owners in future, should attend to the noxious weeds to their own responsibility on their frontages. DOMAIN BOARD The Town Board later met as the Domain Board and discussed minor matters.
