W.D.F.U.

MATAMATA The monthly meeting of the Matamata branch of the W.D.F.U. was held in the Farmers’ Union Hall, Mrs. .K. Buchanan presiding. The previous meeting's minutes were read and confirmed. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames L. Flower, G. Stewart and J. Pickup. The butterfly competition was won by Miss Olga Franks, Master Keith Dawson being second. A vote of thanks was passed to the Matamata Record ■ for the work done in connection with the competition; also to the teachers who assisted at the various schools. As the Farmers’ Trading Company had donated £1 Is it was decided to hold another competition, the previous competition being so successful. A prize is to be given for the largest collection, closing the second week in April, from a child living in the town, area and another prize to the largest collection from the country. A vote of thanks, carried by acclamation, was accorded the Farmers’ Trading Company for their' generous gift.

Mrs. F. Barugh had arranged the afternoon programme, the prize donated by her being won by Mrs. Clyffe Taylor, . who also gave a shilling to the branch to be taken by a different member each time, an article to be made and sold in aid of the branch funds. Mrs. Taylor was thanked for the fine idea. Some business was done at the exchange table. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames K. E. Buchanan and R. K. Montague.
