PUTARURU CLUB. Official Opening. The Putaruru club held its official opening during the week-end. Unfortunately rain in the morning prevented there being a strong attendance of lady players. The men, however, turned out in force. There were also present visitors from Rotorua and Walton clubs. The president, Mr. F. C. Barnett, declared the links open, and the club captain, Mr. A. H. Dukeson, called upon Mrs. F. C. Barnett to drive the first ball. Mrs. Barnett’s drive was a perfect one. The men’s long drive was won by Mr. Leys, and the men’s approach and putting by Mr. Marchbanks. Altogether the afternoon was a very pleasant one. A mixed foursomes match was played over nine holes, and resulted in a win for Mrs. Madgwick and J. Barnett. As there were a number of men without partners a four-ball best-ball match was also played. This was won by N. Barnett and Finnigan. After afternoon tea long drive and approaching and putting competitions were held. The senior ladies’ approach and putting was won by Mrs. Tulloch and the junior ladies’ by Mrs. Madgwick.
