RAGWORT CONTROL BILL.

At Tirau Conference.

I The report of the special committee regarding the proposed Ragwort i Control Bill that is being promoted by the Putaruru branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, the Putaruru Chamber of Commerce and the Matamata County Council was read at a meeting of delegates from local bodies in the Matamata county held at Tirau recently. Mr. H. Rollett (Peria) urged that some means of having ragwort on Crown and native lands dealt with be sought. Mr. E. D. White (Matamata County Council) drew attention to the necessity for obtaining local control and said it was very likely that the Department of Agriculture would assist when local control proved its effectiveness. To cover expenses ordinary rates would suffice in most instances. Mr. A. L. Mason (Putaruru) supported Mr. White’s remarks and said tfie department would probably be willing to assist in the establishment of local control. The proposed Bill would not affect the question of amalgamation. On the motion of Mr. Rollett and Mr. Allen it was decided that the delegates present support the proposed Bill.
