SAFETY DEVICES.

A MOTORING COMEDY. : - " - -MkLiiSitLafc.. The following letter has been forwarded to a country newspaper by a correspondent:— Two motorists recently stopped opposite the store. Their cars were of the same make—late model sixes. The subject the drivers were discussing happened to be that of making cars safe from the attention of joyriders. One motorist asked if his friend made a practice of locking his gear-box when he left the car. The second motorist said he had not done so, as he did not know how to use his gear-box key. The first motorist accordingly locked his own gear-box to show how it was done, and locked his friend’s gear-box as well. Just exactly what happened then is not known, but each man succeeded in breaking off his key in the lock, leaving both cars with their gears locked. The cars required to have the gear covers removed and the gear-locking device removed from the inside, and then to be reassembled, and this by the aid of matches, candles, and electric torch. Both motorists swear that as long as they have these particular cars there will be no more “ monkeying ” with safe-ty-locking devices, no matter how many joy-riders are roaming round.
