Greetings To the Relative of Toi Natanahira's who departed his life on the 7th of July 1898 at his residence Waipoapoa Gladstone Wairarapa, a large number of Natives and European friends of the deceased attended ', 4he tangi, which lasted for a week, a particular riend of the deceased John Strange regularly visited Toi during his illness. A large number of Maori's and Europeans followed the remains to Hinewaka the place of burial. Mr J. Strange particularly desired to obtain a valuable mat, or (Kahu Maori,) in memory of the deceased, at the instance of Captain Tunuiarangi his Toi's friend or relations were consulted, with the result that Mr J. Strange's request was granted, when he Mr Strange and Tamahau Mahupuku in a few well-chosen words made brief mentions of the noble traits of character and qualities of the departed Toi Natanahira. Mr Strange in answer to a questson from Tamahau Mahupuku re his knowledge of Natanahira's Estate. He has no knowledge wheather the deceased made a will or testament of his Estate, but that the deceased was indebted to him Strange to the amt of £BOO, and that if Tawhanga the Sister of the decea- *' sed, agreed to allow the stock to remain on Hinewaka, that he Strange would allow the mortage to the remain upon the wool and reduce amount to £ 500 pounds, when Settlement is made of same svock to go to Tawhanga.
