RUN ON THE BANK.
—♦ WHEN THE MANAGER SHOWED ill A 1 HE WAS A BORN FINANCIER, When the panic struck the country lust fall a citizen ot Prairie City. Nebraska, made a rush for the only bank in Ihe town and demanded his deposit forthwith. When it w a s refused he got excited and did so much talking on the street that all other depositors were seized with a panic and threatened to run. Then it was that the manager of (he bank proved himself a bom financier. "George," he said to one of the clerks, "you know Bill Scott, of course ?” ’’Yes.” "He hasn’t, got and never did have a dollar m this bank, and yet he’s the loudest howler in the crowd outside. ’ Slip out with a gun ami shoot hirh in the leg or shoulder—by accident, ol course.” "Yes, sir."
“And, Janies, said the manager to his office clerk, "there's the old man Simpson out there with his lighting dog. Unchain our dog and take him out by the back door and let him go for Simpson's canine." Five minutes later one-third of the crowd menacing the safety ol tho bank had gathered around Bill Scott, as he lay in the street with a bullet in his leg, and most of tho others were dancing around the two dogs engaged in a fierce fight. Then the manager appeared at the door, a package of greenbacks in one.hand and a gun in the other, and as he flourished both above his head he shouted —
"Here’s the assets of the bank in my loft hand and here’s the Rabidities in my right. Does anybody want his money ?” "No answer.
"Assets, 12,000d015. ; liabilities, six bullets," continued the banker as he tapped the bills with the rnuizzle of his gun. A few persons cheered, and he wound up with—"As the assets and liabilities are sorter mixed up, and you fellows who want assets may get t’other, I reckon you'd better call this run and give me a chance to see where I stand."
There were yells of "No run !” "No run!" and the banker retired with the community having perfect faith in his integrity. And he h a d done it ad with 40t)dols. in cash and an empty gun.—" Baltimore American.”
