The Errol Disaster.

OFFICIAL INQUIRY. Sydney, August 22. Mr Mirere, the Norwegian ConsulGeneral, held an inquiry into the loss the Errol. Johansen, of the survivors, stated that the captain told him before the disaster that he estimated the ship s position to be a degree south of Middleton Reef. No observation had been obtained for two days, owing to the overcast weather. No intoxicants were used either before or after the wreck. The captain was a good disciplinarian. [Several witnesses stated that Palmer had the captain’s ring. Palmer, in evidence, at first denied this, but afterwards staled that Lawrence gave him the ring. It was the mate’s watch at the time of the disaster. Lawrence stated that he found the ring near the ciptain’s body. He might have given it to Palmar. Witness recounted the deaths, and staled that be put the bodies overboard when life was extinct, except those of the two children. They were missing in the morning, and (heir mother must have thrown them overboard during the night, as the youngest was tied to a dead-eye with a strand of rope. He thought the mother was crazy.
