Canvastown.
(From a Correspondent.) The usual monthly meeting of the Canvastown School Committee was held on Saturday, 29th November. Members present:—Messrs (Hastenbury (Chairman), Rush, Wi sn, Simpson, and A!qui t. Minutes of the previous mredng were read and ppnfitinedy iucludi g a resolution to enforce the attendance clauses of the Education Act. Head Tuvcher’s report : —Average attendance for the month, 58-8 ; number on the roll, 70. Attendance unsatisfactory. The result of the annual examination was esptcially gratifying to all concerned, the number of marks gained in class and additional subjects, in many cases, reaching the high standard of good and excellent. It was resolved to congratulate the bead teacher, Mr H. A. Stratford, on the highly satisfactory results of examinations for five years in succsgipn. It was also resolved to congratulate the assistant teacher, Miss Maude Lammas, on the success of the lower division, there beiug but one failure in that part of the school during the four years she has been in charge, a fact of which she may be justly proud. The prizes having been purchased, it was decided to present them at an early date. The prizes are awarded on the result of examination in the whole of the fourteen subjects taught, and. not merely on pass subjects.
It was decided that the summer holidays commence from 19th December, the school to open again on 2nd February. '
