A ROMANCE OF GIANTS.
Those who like romance by the quantity will find it in the announcement that a match is being arranged between two of the biggest persons in the world —Edward Beaupre, known as the giant cowboy, and Miss Ella Ewing, of Gorin, Minnesota.
The Brobdingnagian youth and maiden have never met, but he has proposed by letter and the young woman’s father is understood to have given his consent, and all that remains is the blushing ” yes ” of the wooed one.
Beaupre of French parentage, and was born on the Canadian border 21 years ago. At the age of 15 he became a cowboy but soon grew too big and heavy for a horse to carry ffirn.
His measurements are as follows: Height, 7ft lOfin.; circumference of head, 28in., chest, 54in. ; hips, 64in; neck 24in. ; hand llin. long ; shoe, size 22.
The young giant is one of four children. His father is sft. Bin. high and weighs 1601 b. His mother is sft. 4in. high and weighs 1301 b. Beaupre weighs about 4001 b. Miss Ewing is about the same weight, and is Bft. 4in. tall. At the ago of 10 she was 6ft. Sin. tall. For some time she was one of the attractions of Barnuni and Bailey’s great show and after closing' her engagement there and making her “ pile ” she set up housekeeping and built a residence for her own comfort. Some of its measurements are startling. The ceilings are 15ft. high, the doors 10ft. high, and her bed 9ift. long. Her hammock for the garden is 15ft. long and her toilet table 4-£ft. high.
A TEXT OF SCRIPTURE. A Lincolnshire vicar having quarrel led with a parishioner of the name of Hardy, chose for his text on the following Sunday the words, “ There is no fool like the foolhardy.” The Buttler—“ Hand hevery night at the hour of midnight, the ghost happears and groans and wrings its hands.” Tourist —“ Ah ! Must have died in the cucumber season.” The husband who is proud of his wife should occasionally tell her so.
