‘Now then, ladies and gentlemen,’ shouted the red-faced showman, ‘ walk up and see the most wonderful baby on earth 1 The charge for admission ia only tuppence. Walk up 1 Walk up 1’ A good many persons responded to the invitation, and when the booth was full the showman brought forward a very ordinary baby indeed in all respects. 1 What is there wonderful about that 1’ asked one of the disgusted audience of the showman. ‘I have seen thousands of babies like it 1’ ‘Well,’ said the showman, getting near an aperture in the booth, ‘all I can say is that its mother says it's the most wonderful baby on earth, an’ if she don’t know, who do? Yerll have ter take the lady’s word for it!’ he yelled, as he dodged an empty bottl e and disappeared from view.
