LATEST PARLIAMENTARY NEWS.

[BY TELEGRAPH .]

Fbom Oub Own Cobeespondent.)

Wellington, last night. Captain Bussell administered one of the most gentlemanly but truthful and caustic “dressing downs” to Messrs Montgomery and Taylor, for the attitude they have taken up in the House, which they have ever had since they have been Members. The latest news from the West Coast does not give very much hopes of getting the Mapourika off the beach. The Company’s Manager is hopeful, but the recent heavy south-west weather is doing much injury to the hull. There has been most disorderly doings in the Queensland Parliament over the formation of a new Ministry. Seven of the Members were suspended for a week for disreputable remarks about the Speaker and the Labour Party. There has been nothing settled definitely as to what time Parliament will adjourn, but, if better progress is not made with the work now before the House, there is every prospect of it extending considerably into next month. Parliament, with all its varieties in questions, notions, and broken privilege still seems to be completely overshadowed by the Old Age Pensions Bill, as the Opposition are fighting every clause, and doing their utmost to retard the measure from getting through. The most cantankerous opposition comes from one or two of the Left Wing, as they call them- ’ selves, who were afraid to openly oppose the Bill on its second reading, but have done their utmost to kill it in committee. Mr Taylor, of Christ church, being specially in evidence on all occasions when frivolous empty talk will serve to delay any clause. Of course, this might be expected where men are speaking from conviction, but anyone to profess that he is a supporter pf such a measure and covertly act quite the reverse is despicable, and will, no doubt, eventually bring its own reward. It is anticipated the Bill will be through this week.
