The Train Sensation.

Hobart, February i. With regard.to Miss Brown's sensational leap from the Hobart-Launceston train, particulars of which show that she and R. L. Davidson oceupied the same carriage. Miss Brown lay down, and after having slept for a short time awoke, and sha states accused was standing up looking towards her. Accused then lay down on the opposite seat, and thinking she detected a smell of chloroform, she immediately got up and walked to the window. Feeling faint, she tried to attract the attention of the people in the next carriage, and failing, screamed and jumped out of the window, fortunately, without sustaining serious injury. Miss Brown admfts that Davidson did not attempt to molest her. No trace of chloroform was found on the accused, but he had a bottle of cough mixture, which smelt strongly of peppermint and aniseed, out of which he had taken a dose just previous to the alleged administration. Davidson says that he had given Miss Brown his coat and rug to keep her warm. He had also asked her whether she would like the carriage to herself so that she might sleep undisturbed. Miss Brown is described as a sensitive girl, likely to be frightened at anything, and the affair appears to be one of those unfortunate circumstaNces which at times lead to an innocent person being unjustly accused.
