(From Our Own Correspondent.) Wellington, Last Night.

The debate on the Address-in-Eeply was finished last night, audit was carried unanimously, without amendment. The whole of the criticism from the Opposition was very mild and in good humour. Borne paragragbs in a few of the old speeches made by those Members during the recess were unearthed in the debate, and some amusement was created at the sad dearth of prophetic intelligence displayed by those whose wish was evidently “ father to the thought.” An Imprest Supply Bill for £293,000 is now going through the House, and those who are dissatisfied are airing their grievances.

Nearly all the Committees are set up, and the practical part of the session fairly commenced. The Opposition held a meeting today and elected Captain Bussell to be Loader of their Party, and when the House met the Premier congratulated them on the choice they had made. He also congratulated the Captain for the general courtesy he bad always shown the Government, and trusted it would continue throughout the session. Captain Russell, in one of his graceful speeches, acknowledged the compliment, and assured the Premier and the House that their duty would comprise only fair criticism, not obstruction, and he hoped the business would be done within reasonable hours, so that the health of Members would not be seriously impaired as on previous occasions. Sir Maurice O’Eorke arrived from Auckland last night, and presided this afternoon -for the first time,this.session. Mr Guinness, the Chairman of Committees, who has been acting as Speaker, had commenced to earn a good reputation for the able and impartial manner he fulfilled, the difficulty imposed upon him. The weather has been wretched for the past few days, blowing a living gale from the S.E., with rain, but it looks to be settling pow. I am informed the report from Mr Wilson, Government Engineer, on the Em Valley tramway will shortly be completed. It is being looked forward to with some interest. The Hon.
