MINING NEWS.

The following are the Reefton mining returns for the last week Globe, 82oza amalgam from 170 tons stone; Hercules, 1270zs from 92 tons stone; Big River, ISOozs from 120 tons stone; Progress, 2150zs from. 220 tons stone; all from top plates only. Keep it Dark, 69ozs amalgam from 44 tons stone from the low level (top plates only). The Duller Dredge obtained Slozs retorted gold for the week, and the Cocksparrow, 35ozs amalgam for 70 hours’ work.

A London and Paris Syndicate has arranged to purchase the New Victoria and Bendigo mines in Ooolgardie for £27,000. It is reported that wonderful new developments have occurred in those mines.

An Auckland telegram says:—“ The Invisfca (Kuaofconu)’ crushed 16 ton's dirt for a yield of 898ozs gold. Froih the Ofcama claim, on the same field, 401 b picked stone was crushed for 44ozs retorted gold, Johns and party, tributers, in the Ofcama crushed 601 b specimens for 88ozs gold. Several new claims have been pegged out in this' district.

Recent South African files show that the total quantity of ore treated on the Rand goldfield during 1894 was 2,827,365 tons (2,0001bs each), which yielded 2,024,163 ounces of gold bullion, worth £6,963,1000, from 50 producing mines. The dividends declared for the year amounted tq £1,540,394, being 20 per cent., on the output. The actual extraction amounted to 16dwfcs or £2 15/- per English ton, but ohimitting the rich returns from the Robinson, Nigel, Worcester, and a few other mines, the average yield does not exceed £llO/per ton. From the Rand mines, since their commencement in 1887 to Bl'st December, 1894, 10,110,000 tons of ore have been treated for 6,544,5840zs of gold bullion, valued at £22,600,000, and of this large amount no less than £6,963,000 was won during last year’s operations.
