Abner, Bristol, Cardigan, Clarendon and Helene have been scratched for the Melbourne Cup. A glove contest, between R. Matthews and R. Wilkinson, for £2O a-side, came off in Auckland on Saturday night, when Matthews undertook to knock his opponent out of time in four rounds. Matthews, at the start, forced the fighting by fierce and determined blows, knocking Wilkinson down several times on the stage. After about a minute of this had gone on, the time keeper declared that the specified ten seconds had elapsed, and the judge decided that Matthews had won the match.
