LIBRARY CONCERT.

The third of the seric-s of Library Concerts took place in McFarlane’s Hall last night, before an excellent house. The entertainment opened with an overture by the McFarlane familv, and * , followed bv Miss Porter whose render- r ing of “ When Sparrows Build ” was I much applauded. Mrs Orr's “Blind I Girl's Dream " was warmly encored, and I responded to by another song. Mr. 1 Goldsmith's 11 Silver Rhine " was given

in his best style, while “ The Old Brigade,” by Major Porter, was voiciferously encored. Madame Stewart’s “ Lassie ” was also well received. His VbisrJp ;..e ?Jayor, with a few appropriate remarks, then presented the Royal Humane Society’s Australasian Bronze Medals to Miss M. M. Ballantyne and Mr J. Berry, and a Certificate of Merit to Mr A. G. Allom. In the second part Madame Stewart’s “Sweet Spirit hear my Prayer” was loudly encored, and elicited another song. Mr East, Miss Porter, and Mr O’Meara were all well received, whilst Mr Pierce’s negro song and dance fairly brought down the house. The “Negro Melodrama,” by Messrs Pierce and Ross, concluded a most enjoyable entertainment.
