CORRESPONDENCE
THE TAUWHAREPARE BLOCK. To the Editor of the P. 11. Independent. SIR, —1 perceive by your report of the last Harbor Board meeting that a motion was tabled for offering the above block for lease on certain terms. Now, Sir, in common with many others, I should much like to know if the whole block is to be leased, as originally bought for the Crown by Mr J. A. Wilson, or whether it is true that a large portion of the block, amounting to nearly 14,000 acres of the very best of the land, has lately been conveyed to certain people. If such is really the case, all I have to say is that the Harbor Board has virtually nothing whatever of any value to either lease or offer as security for the loan of any money for public purposes. I would ask you, Sir, in the interests of the public, to bring the matter before the Harbor Board before they commit themselves any further, as the subject is causing some anxiety. I am, &c., E. C. Tologa, Sept. 20,1885.
