Colonial Defences.

(own correspondent.) London, July 18. It is rumored that H.M.S. Beacon will be presented to one of the Australian Colonies. The Beacon is a double screw composite gun vessel of 603 tons, carrying four guns. A deputation, headed by Robert Fowler, M.P., Lord Mayor of London, waited upon Lord George Hamilton, First Lord of the Admiralty, to-day. His Lordship stated, in reply to a question by the deputation, that the Government had decided to reclass all the iron-clads and to discard all those which were deemed inefficient. He further stated that the Government would cooperate with the various colonies in the work of defending their principal towns.
