RED SEA CO-OPERATION
BRITAIN AND FRANCE X NORTH AFRICAN TENSION PARIS, March. 1. “Pertinax” (M. Andre Geraud), the well known French writer and publicist, who is now editor of -the weekly publication, L’Europe *Nouvelle, addressing an Anglo-French gathering yesterday, said that British and French naval co-operation might be necessary' iii the Red Sea to avert war. He pointed out that extensive war preparations in Africa suggested that war might come as a result of a frontier “incident.” “If Italy can score some local success,” he continued, "<ve will be placed in the position of either taking the responsibility of declaring general war or accepting peace by negotiation. It is the latter course that Italy hopes that we will take. “The only way out is close technical collaboration between Britain and France for tire defence of Jibuti (French Somaliland), which could not hold out any longer than three months without assistance.”
