N.Z. LABOUR PARTY
CONFERENCE DELEGATES OFFICERS FOR 1939-40 In view of the expectation that the Easter conference of the Labour Party would provide an opportunity for dealing with rumours of a split in the ranks of the party, much interest attached to the election of officers at the annual meeting of the Gisborne branch of the party, held last evening in the Selvyn Hall. Mr. E. Harris presided over a good attendance of members, and the discussions were followed with close interest. Several nominations for membership were received. The balance sheet for the past year showed the finances to be in a particularly healthy condition. The meeting offered its congratulations to Mr. A. Hudson, secretary, upon the efficient manner in which the affairs of the branch had been conducted, and permission was granted for the purchase of a number of items of office equipment to lighten the secretary’s duties, which recently had become much heavier owing to the rapid growth of membership. Mr. D. W. Coleman, M.P., was nominated for membership of the national executive of the New Zealand Labour Party, and officers of the branch for tlie ensuing year were elected as follows:—President, Mr. E. Harris; vicepresident, Mr. E. R. Hudson; secretary, Mr. A. Hudson; executive committee, Mrs. E. R. Scott and Messrs. D. W. Coleman (ex officio). P. Mann, P. G. Hansen, J. Hall, and T. Webber; delegates to Labour Representation Committee, Messrs. A. Hudson, E. Harris, and F. Winter; auditors, Messrs. P. Mann and D. W. Comber.
It was announced by the president that the party would hold weekly dances in aid of Labour objectives.
