THE WEATHER Last Night’s Forecast General situation.—Pressure it falling slowly over New Zealand but is still high over south-eastern Australia. A deep depression is located jver the north Tasman Sea. Forecast.—Winds rather variable at first but southerlies or south-easter-lies gradually prevailing, moderate mainly but strong in the far south and rising in the north. Seas in New Zealand waters rough about Foveaux Strait; elsewhere slight to moderate, but rising north of East Cape and later in Cook Strait. In the eastern Tasman Sea south-westerly winds at first in the southern (portion, but otherwise south to east prevailing, moderate to strong generally and reaching gale force in parts of the northern portion; seas rough. Weather fine at first in central areas, cloudy to overcast in far northern and southern districts, with rain developing and gradually becoming more wirtesptcad. Temperatures mild to warm, but falling to-morrow. To-day’s North Island Report Blue skies were reported at Napier this morning, but overcast conditions prevailed elsewhere in the North Island. Light southerly breezes were blowing at Auckland and light to fresh north-westerlies elsewhere. Th? barometer had fallen steadily since yesterday. Temperatures at 9 o’clock were: Auckland, Tauranga, and Gisborne 63 degrees, Opotiki (12, East Cape (If). Napier 64, and Wellington 39 Rough seas were reported at Cape Campbell, Cape Palliser, and Castlepoint: elsewhere moderate or smooth. Midday Forecast General situation.—Pressure has continued lo fall over New Zealand. II remains high over south-eastern Australia, but is commencing to fall there also. Disturbed conditions persist in the north Tasman. Forecast.—Light to moderate and variable winds, northerlies predominating. Weather, fair to cloudy, mild temperatures and slight to moderate seas.
