WAIKATO’S DRY SPELL

SHORTAGE OF FEED Farmers in the Waikato are becoming anxious as a result of the dry spell since the end of January. Pastures are becoming bare, crops are suffering, and the fear is entertained that the stock will enter the winter in poor condition. The last heavy rain in the Waikato was recorded on January 29, 30 ana 31, when (i.43in. was registered over the three days, making January's total rainfall 7.25 in., as compared with an average of 3.12 in. During February only i.47in. was recorded, as against the average of 3.10 in. for that month. So far this month rain has fallen on only one day. .50in. being recorded on March 12.
