TE ARAROA NEWS
(Herald Correspondent.) As showing how isolated East Cape is, the instructor in agriculture had to ride on horseback to reach the school there. East Cape School is the only one in his district to which he had to ride, traversing 15 miles each way. The inspector, who followed the next day, was more ortunate for he went by taxi to within a mile of the school. In order to be able to do this he had to travel to East Cape, examine the scholars and return to Te Araroa by the same tide. People who see the Public Works Department’s camp at East Cape remark how comfortable it is. Some of the native workers who occupy the huts are more comfortable than they would be at home. Measles are severe in Te Araroa. At a meeting to be held in Tikitiki on Wednesday the question as to who should be selected to take Sir Apirana Ngata’s place as a candidate for Parliament will be discussed. Both Sir Apirana Ngata and Mr. R. T. Kohere are expected to be present at meeting.
