NATIVE LAND

DEVELOPMENT SCHEMES VIEWS OF SIR A. NO AT A (Hnrald Correspondent) Sir Apirana and Lady Ngata visited To Araroa last week and in the evening Sir Apirana gave an address to a large audience. He mentioned that after April 1 there would be no more Government grants to native farmers who were not, under the development schemes, but native lands under development would be fully maintained. He also informed the natives that the Commissioner of Taxes would be taxing incorporated blocks as though they were companies and to test the matter the commissioner would take up one incorporated block. Sir Apirana Ngata advised the natives to take the matter before the Supreme Court. Referring to native farming, he said that Mr. Bob Clarke’s dairy farm at Tikitere was the finest in the country.
