NEW AUSTRIAN CURRENCY
OLD NOTES WORTHLESS PASSING OF SCHILLINGS (Reed. Jan. 4, 9 a.m.) VIENNA, Jan. 3. All the paper notes of old Austrian schilling currency became worthless as from January 1 and silver coins are worth only their intrinsic value, which is about a quarter of the nominal value.
The banks worked overtime exchanging old currency for new, but many people retained sets of 10 two schilling coins, already worth over the nominal 20 schillings, bearing the portraits of celebrities, including Dr. Dollfuss.
