FIRE IN WAIROA
TOBACCONIST’S SHOP
OVER £IOOO DAMAGE DONE
(Special to the Herald.) WAIROA, this day.
Over £IOOO damage was caused by a fire which broke out In the premises of Mr. W. H. Flint, tobacconist and hairdresser, Marine parade, Wairoa, late yesterday afternoon. On the brigade’s arrival the fire had complete control of the shop portion of the building. The brigade did good work in quelling the flames and in preventing the spread of the fire to the billiard room at the rear of the premises.
The front portion, where it is understood the fire originated, suffered severely, and extensive damage was done to the ceiling and walls in the hairdressing saloon. The interior of the shop was almost completely destroyed. A large amount of stock was damaged, including valuable sports equipment.
The building was insured for £I2OO and the stock and fittings for £1725 with the Royal Exchange Company.
