INFLUX OF CRIMINALS MAGISTRATE’S COMMENT (Per Press Association.) . WELLINGTON, this day. Commenting it was a great: pity the 'immigration laws permitted the entry of undesirable characters, Mr. J. 11, Luxil'ord, S.M., in the Police Court to-day, said that undoubtedly a number of Australian criminals left' the Commonwealth before the periodic clean-up by the police. He was dealing with James Andrews, wiho arrived on December 12 and came under the notice of the police on December 20, when a man who said he had .£SO in his possession when he was in a hotel, and missed it after he had been to a lavatory.
Mr. Luxford pointed out that when a man was being boarded and had been in tlhe country only a fortnight or three weeks, he could not be convicted for not having sufficient lawful means of support.
