Resentment has been aroused in Japan by the news of the death of Daiji Takahashi, a shipping manager stationed at Vladivostock, while imprisoned somewhere in Russia. The Japanese ambassadorial secretary in Moscow demanded the immediate release of Takahashi and five compatriots, but was informed that lie had died of illness while in gaol and that the others would be tried on charges of espionage.
