GERMAN NAVAL PLANS
CRUISERS & SUBMARINES BERLIN DISCUSSIONS (British Official Wireless.) Rec. 9 a.m. RUGBY, Dec. 31. The British naval mission headed by Vice-Admiral Cunningham, deputy Chief of the Naval Staff, returned to London from Berlin to-day.
A communique issued at London stated: "The conversations were held in the most friendly atmosphere. The representatives of the two Governments expressed their views on the points at issue and Germany will, in due course, give a definite reply iJ 1 writing."
The Daily Telegraph says: "It cannot be pretended that the steps proposed by Germany are in any way welcome in Britain. The German proposals to build up to her 35 per cent quota of Sin. gun cruisers, and up to hei 100 per cent quota in the matter of submarines will, if unmodified by the discussions in Berlin, necessitate an acceleration of the British programme of destroyers and escort vessels."
