LITTLE ALTERATION ( Per J'ri'ss Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. The customs returns for Christchurch show comparatively little alteration for December or for th« past nine months over the previous year's totals. The December figures rose by £5200, but for the ninemonthly period the amount fell by £50,685. The principal increases In the December duties were in the beer duty aod petrol and tyre tax, while the snies tax and customs showed the main Jrop for the longer period The comparative figures for December were as follows:---1937. 1938. !• e
INCREASES AT AUCKLAND (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. Substantial increases were shown in the customs revenue at Auckland during the past year. The principal totals for 1938 follow, with the 1937 totals in parentheses: — Customs, £3,587,715 (£3;485,889); motor spirit, £877,305 (£790,589); tyre duty, £33,317 (£35,584); totals, £4,498,337 (£4,312,062).- Excise on beer totalled £214,285 (£193,408), and the sales tax, £1,052,302 (£1,022,467).
