WOMEN'S INSTITUTE
MAKARAKA-MATAWHERO The December meeting of the Makaraka-Matawhero Women's Institute was one of the most instructive it had. last year. There was a good attendance of members and visitors.
Before the business commenced Mrs. A. Lange, the president, moved a motion of sympathy with Mr. White and family in the death of Mrs. White, all members standing. Members deeply regretted the passing and felt the institute had lost a good workers and staunch member. The children's Christmas partywas postponed until the last Saturday in January owing to many children (having the measles. The annual picnic, combined with the garden circle, is to be held at Waihirore on January 21, the institute providing transport per the Red Bus service, members to notify the garage beforehand.
The demonstrations were keenly 1 followed. Mrs. Goodwin showed how rugs and cushions could be made from old felt hats, the finished articles being very attractive. Mrs. Lewis gave a first aid lecture and showed how to do bandaging. Mesdames' Goodwin and Lewis were both accorded very 'hearty votes of thanks. The president extended, on behalf of the committee, Dhe season's greetings to all members. i
