Cheery New Year's Eve Party

On New Year's Eve Dr. Harold Angell and Mrs. Angell entertained a number of their friends at a very jolly party at their home in Clifford street.

The rooms in which the guests spent the evening were prettily decorated with bowls of hydrangeas and gaily adorned with coloured balloons and streamers. Refreshments and savouries were served while all present interchanged the season's greetings. Mrs. Angell received her guests wearing a smart navy blue frock. Auckland Wedding

The marriage took place at St. Aidan's Church, Remuera, Auckland, last Wednesday of Mrs. Joan Barrett, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. S. Hickman, of Lemington, England, and Mr. Jock Hutchison, only son of Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Hutchison, of Remuera. The wedding ceremony was performed by Canon Connelly. The bride, who was given away by Dr. J. McMurray Cole, wore a frock of navy biue diagonal-striped ninon and a large navy blue hat ornamented with self-coloured flowers. She carried a sheaf of red roses. The bridegroom was attended by Mr. E. W. B. L,e Quesne as best man.

Enjoyable New Year Party

A delightiui informal party was given by Mr. and Mrs. li. H. DeCosta and Miss Peggy DeCosta at their home in Clifford street on New Year's Eve for some visitors from Wellington, Mr. and Mrs. E. Markham and Mr. and Mrs. H. Cane, and to lender the compliments of the season and good wishes to some Ox their friends. The guests were entertained in the dining-room and drawing-room, the connecting doors between the rooms being thrown open to make one large reception room. Hydrangeas and gladioli were artistically arranged for the decoration of both rooms. Mrs. DeCosta welcomed her guests wearing a smart frock of black georgette sorigged with lily-of-the-valley. Miss DeCosta wore an attractive frock of navy blue sheer appliqued in taffeta.

New Year's Eve Dance The Wainui Hall was the scene of a jolly and successful dance on New Year's Eve, when crowds assembled there to spend the last few hours of the passing year in dancing until midnight. The dance was organised by the Wainui Hall Committee and the proceeds were devoted to the hall funds. An orchestra provided the dance music and extras were played by Miss

Coloured streamers, balloons, fern, and Chinese lanterns were effectively arranged for the decoration of the hail, giving it a festive appearance in keeping with the occasion. A delicious savoury supper was served informally by Mesdames L. W. Cooper and J. L. Cowan, members of the hall committee who were in charge of the catering arrangements. After the dance most of those present followed the time-honoured Scottish custom of "first footing" by calling on their friends and offering New Year greetings.

A happy party was given by Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Cowan at their home at Makarori during the New Year for their son, Mr. L. L. Cowan, and several of his friends, all of whom now reside in Wellington but were spending the holidays at their homes in Gis'borne and were due to return south to-day.

Lemon and orange toniugs were used with artistic effect for the decoration of-the drawing-room, which was cleared for dancing. The colours were carried out in nasturtiums and gaillardias, prettily arranged in vases, and lemon and orange paper streamers and Chinese lanterns, which were hung about the room, giving it a bright and festive appearance. In the den adjoining was a large bowl of red, orange and yellow cannas.

Dancing was enjoyed throughout the evening, the music being played by some of the pianists present, including Misses Ruth Sinclair, Jane McLernon and Nancy Cowan, accompanied on the violin by Mr. J. L. Cowan. A delicious savoury supper was served informally buffet fashion.

The young guests spent a very jolly evening and took the opportunity of bidding farewell to Mr. L. L. Cowan and his friends, wishing them a happy and successful New Year. Mrs. Cowan welcomed her guests wearing a becoming frock of navy blue crepe printed in lighter shades of blue.

She was assisted in her duties as hostess by her daughters, Miss Nancy Cowan, whose light leaf green frock was adorned with a corsage spray of violets, and Miss Dawn Cowan, who wae wearing a white crepe frock patterned in navy blue.
