NEW YEAR BOWLS

PEACE SHELD TOURNEY 30 RINKS COMPETING THREE HOUNDS COMPLETE SECTION PLAY RESULTS Thirty rinks took part yesterday in the first day's play of the GisborneEast Coast Bowling Centre's Peace Shield tournament, and three rounds were completed. The weather was splendid, and several of the games were closely contested, one in the second round of the A section going to an extra head before it could be decided.

Three rounds were completed yesterday, the play taking place on the Gisborne, Poverty Bay, and Kahutia greens. To-day the fourth, fifth and sixth rounds were to have been completed, and to-morrow the rinks will take part in post-section play.

In the games decided yesterday, only five of the 30 rinks went through the day without a loss, these being skipped by I. Stephenson, F. Williams, R. B. Watt, H. S. Short, and J. Newton. Three of the rinks, Williams, Watt and ■nor;, were taking part in the B section.
