RAILWAY TRADESMEN
DOMINION CONFERENCE ID CHER PAY SOUGHT (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The 'biennial conference of the New Zealand Railway Tradesmen’s Association, which began its session yesterday, is being attended by delegates throughout the Dominion. The conference recorded appreciation of the- victory of the Labour Government at the recent elections, special reference being made to the success of Mr. H. E. Combs who has "been closely associated with the tradesman’s : association during the past 12 years.
The' conference spent a good deal time during the first day dealing with railway tradesmen’s rates of pay and the dilution of trades. The earliest possible arrangement is to be made with the Government to obtain its decision regarding the claim for increased wages. Representatives of the boilermakers’ federation met the conference when the dilution question was fully considered. It was decided to take appropriate action to protect the interests of the skilled men concerned.
