A message from Paris states that because be refused to give ground on reconstruction proposals in the face of Cabinet opposition, M. Marchandeau has resigned from the French Finance Ministry, to which the Minister of Justice. M. Raynaud, has been appointed. M. Marchandeau is taking over the Justice portfolio.
In promising a programme withm five days, M. R'aynaud, in a statement, said be would refuse to devalue the franc, the necessity for which had passed. “The problem of recovery is not monetary, but economic and financial,” he said. The Minister of Commerce, M. Gentin, said that the Government was undertaking a survey of production and planning rationalisation of some industries and the creation of others not involving State control or pressure, but the Government was prepared to act in an advisory capacity.
The Paris correspondent of the Daily Telegraph say’s that M. Gentin obviously is countering the activities of the German labour front leader. Dr. Ley, but the policy will not have an appreciable effect unless industrialists are made to realise that stringent measures will follow if the hints are not taken seriously.
