PLANS OF CHIANG

RESISTANCE TO JAPAN NATION-WIDE WARFARE vast hinterland Hi EPA RATIONS COMPLETED (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. Nov. 2, 2.50 p.m.) LONDON, Nov. 1. A message from Chungking states that Marshal Chiang Kai-Shek, in a manifesto to the nation, said that China’s main base of resistance lay in the vast hinterland.

The defence of Hankow and Wuchang had deliberately been prolonged in order to allow the development of the inland resources and communications. This had been completed and .therefore the plan for nation-wide warfare instead of fighting at particular points could be carried out irrespective of changes in the international situation.

Japan must collapse from exhaustion. China’s supplies were adequate. There was no danger that communications would be cut.
