EMPIRE MIGRATION AIM
COMMITTEE SET UP FEDERATION SUGGESTED DESIRE IN DOMINIONS (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. Oct. 14, 2 p.m.) LONDON, Oct. 13. The Empire migration conference has appointed a permanent committee, including the Earl of Mansfield, Viscount Bledisloe, Brigadier-General J. ,T. Nation, and members of the House of Commons, and a plan will be drawn up in collaboration with migration organisations in Britain and the Dominions for submission to the British Government. The chairman of the conference said it was intended firstly to attempt to form a federation of British voluntary migration bodies to avoid the overlapping of activities.
Brigadier Culshaw, of the Salvation Army, said that General Booth last year authorised an Empire-wide survey by experts with a view _to ascertaining the chances of resuming migration. It was discovered that, without exception, the Dominions were most desirous of a resumption of immigration. On the contrary, hesitation and apathy in Britain was proved conclusively to exist after visits to 30,000 homes.
