“NOT JUSTIFIED”
SOUTH WESTLAND LINK Road improvements, but not the construction of a railway into South Westland, are favoured by the departmental committee which lias investigated the position, according to a tele graphed message to the Westland County Council from Mr. James O'Brien, M.P. While the committee definitely opposes the construction of a railway because. since only about 1.000.000 super fec-t of white pine would be served, i! would not be justified. A representative deputation is likely to be sent to Wellington to investigate file proposal further. It is understood that road improvements favoured include a , general widening of the Main South road and several deviations. including the elimination of the Mount Hercules seefion.
