GIRLS’ SECTION ENDS ALDWYTH KEMP WINS The final game of the girls’ section of the children’s chess tournament took place last week, when Aldwyth Kemp proved the winner after a keen contest. The finalists, Aldwyth Kemp and Shirley Robertson, fought out the match tenaciously and after 1J hours’ play the former secured a checkmate. As far as the percentages were concerned, the final positions were: — Aldwyth Kemp, 86 per cent with seven games played; Moira Jolly. 70 per cent with five games played; Rita Dorf, 67 per cent with six games played; Shirley Robertson, 67 per cent with five games played; Margaret McGregor, 58 per cent, with six games played. Keen enthusiasm was displayed by the children in the formation of a junior division of the Chess Club, 32 children being present at the meeting.
