PAKIHI LANDS

INSPECTION BY MINISTER WASTE AREAS IN USE (Per Press Association.) WESTPORT, this day. The Minister of Lands, Hon. F. Langstone, accompanied by the Hon. P. C. Webb,'member for the electorate, and others yesterday inspected pakihi land adjacent to Westport, which has been the subject of experiments by the Cawthron Institute and the Government, under the supervision of Mr. T. Rigg, director of the institute. A considerable amount of roading and drainage has been done, and what formerly was waste pakihi land is now carrying beautiful crops of grass on which many head of cattle are thriving. The Minister was also impressed with the flax on this area, it being the best lie had seen in New Zealand. It is understood that the Minister is favourable to development of the palcilu lands being extended to an additional 700 acres. The Minister was later the guest of the local branch of the Labour Party at a social gathering.
