“It is felt that it would be a retrograde step to lower the educational standard required of those desiring to enter the nursing profession,” states the Director-General of Health, Dr. M. 11. Watt, in a letter received by the New Zealand Farmers’ Union. Dr. Watt had been asked by the Dominion executive of the union to create a general entrance examination test for entrants to the nursing profession to obviate the rule providing for two years’ secondary education prior to entry to the profession.
